Classes

Our worship dance classes provide instruction in contemporary, interpretive movement, dramatic expression, and basic ballet technique within a Christ-centered environment. We offer weekly classes with a theme based performance in the spring. Each worship dance class will include aspects of the following:

Devotions
An important part of every class is studying the theme for the session through biblically based devotionals and practical application. Our heart is to help our students grow in their relationship with Jesus.

Warm-up
Before dancing, teachers lead students in an engaging and age appropriate warm-up and stretches.

Basic Ballet
Some ballet movements will be incorporated into class time and/or choreography. (For further training in this foundational form of dance see “Ballet” section)

Interpretive Dance
Learn to express the lyrics of a song through facial expressions & movement.

Free Dance
We love encouraging our students to personally express their love for the Savior.

Year Round Program
In the fall, our classes are focused on: learning skills, growing in technique, learning to use expression, and exposure to different styles of dance.  In the spring our focus shifts to taking the skills they have learned and putting them into their dance choreography for our final performance. Because of the importance of the fall classes, we highly recommend that students start no later than November. This helps them stay on track (devotional and skill wise) with the rest of their class!

*REGISRATION CLOSES DECEMBER 31st

Ballet classes are for ages 5 & up and offer technical training at barre, center & across the floor. We highly recommend this foundational training which builds strength and improves coordination, while increasing body awareness.

*Please note: our ballet classes are supplemental and are only to be taken in addition to a worship dance class. (Ballet classes do not learn a choreography piece for the performance.)

This class is for upper level students who are on pointe, would like to be on pointe, or are just interested in strengthening their bodies! Strength, stability, and control in the feet and ankles is a cornerstone, not only for pointe work, but for all types of dance!

This class consists of resistance band work, strengthening exercises, barre work, center, and across the floor.

Each part of the class has been carefully designed to target: articulation of the forefoot, ankle mobility, endurance, and strengthening from your core- down through your individual toe muscles!

In order to keep costs low, be eco friendly, and have modest, age appropriate, performance wear that is still flattering and beautiful, we do costuming differently than other dance schools. Rather than have you purchase an expensive costume for one time use, we utilize re-usable costuming. We charge a very low ($35 per student) costume fee in January for our spring recital. There are a few undergarments and hair supplies listed below that you will need to purchase in addition to the fee. Those supplies and our small costume fee is all you will pay for your student(s) participation in the spring recital, as we do NOT charge a separate performance fee!!

Girls

  • Tights that match skin tone (For Caucasian girls, this will be light pink)
  • Leather ballet shoes that are a close match to skin tone and tights (We recommended split sole ballet shoes whenever possible)
  • Bun making supplies: hair elastics, hair gel and/or spray, bobby pins and hair net, depending on performance piece hairstyle
  • Various undergarments:
    • If your student wears a bra, it must be flesh colored and NOT a razor back
    • Level 4 & up: may need a white long sleeve leotard, a black long sleeve leotard, or a flesh colored camisole leotard. Their teacher will let you know which one they need, once the performance draws closer.

We have one scheduled day a year that parents can come and observe classes. Watching class at other times is not permitted. Students learn and grow best in an environment where there are no distractions in the classroom.

We ask that you not overbook your child. Dance is an art form, but it’s also a team sport! When a student misses class due their involvement in other extra-curricular activities, it is hard on their “teammates”. We want every child to have the benefits of full participation!!

If your child needs to miss class for any reason, please let us know ASAP so teachers know how to plan. To excuse an absence, either call  the CMA line (303-470-5856) or email us (cma@magnifythelord.org).

If your child has any of the following symptoms within 24 hours of class, we ask that you keep them home.

  •       Vomiting
  •       Diarrhea
  •       Rash
  •       Fever
  •       Wet cough
  •       Obviously contagious conditions, such as pink eye, head lice, etc

In the event that classes need to be canceled, you will be notified via email, 2 hours before your child’s class time. It will also be posted on social media and our phone message. You will NOT receive a call. Make sure we have your email for notifications and information.

In the event that you need to drop out of classes, we will pro-rate + charge you a $10.00 administration fee. The pro-rated amount is based on the number of classes that occurred prior to you informing us of your need to drop. Even if you were not present at those classes, you will still be charged.
